A customer recently found Cobb Tool through its website to help with retrofitting the  mechanical design and production of a piece of equipment that would monitor people’s temperatures in nursing homes and other healthcare facilities – as part of its ongoing COVID-19 response.  Working with a design contractor, Cobb Tool developed a design within a few days. By day six, the Tennessee-based designer and customer arrived at the Cobb Tool shop and assembled the prototype.

The customer was delighted, but then asked for 30 machines within four days – an impossible task given the absence of production materials. With a slight design modification, suggested by Cobb Tool’s engineering team, alternate materials could be sourced however and the machines could be produced within a week – saving money and still providing the much-desired rapid turnaround.
